Silver with Distinction

It’s time to blow my own trumpet.. Two of my photograhs were awarded at the 2007 Canon Australian Professional Photography Awards just a few weeks back. One, entitled Feet First was awarded a Silver with Distinction, and the other, Reflection got a Silver award. Competing directly against professional photographers across Australia, I must admit I’m stoked to achieve such fabulous results on my first attempt at a national photography competition. It’s going to be difficult to follow up on this, but I’m very happy nonetheless.

  • HI Geoff. Thanks for the answers. OK i understand teh process and you did a very very good work. I really love it.
I ask about clubs because i never been in one and i am not interested in going the point was if you make meetings with other photographers or if you go to places specifically for photography. Because it was i did in europe and i want do it here as well.
I live in Panania Bankstown or near.
Yes i am portuguese, i have degree in advertising multimedia comunications and Photography course in POrtuguese institute and also specialization portraits B/W in Milan.

  • Thanks Helder,

First Feet is a straight shot, taken with a 50mm at f1.8m and then converted to b/w. I am the model as well, so it was set up on a tripod, pre-focussed and on a timer. I got very dirty :)
The other shot is a 30 second exposure on a tripod and timer again, as again it is me in the shot. I sat in the chair and after 15 or 20 if the 30 seconds, I stood up and walked out of shot. Again a b/w conversion. So of course you do do both of these shots on film.

I am in the process of doing a Diploma of Photography, so no I don’t really do photo meets. There are plenty of camera clubs around though. Where do you live by the way. Your ip address is in Australia, but you are Portuguese?

  • Hi Geoff. Thanks for your answer. uau i never imagined such effects could came out in digital. I like film butu also o like digital i think the best way to achieve something new is take the both worlds.
I have a Nikon F5 and a Nikon D200.Can I achieve the same light and effects on Nikon. Could you dsecribe me some details the way you did it if you want of course.Do you participate in photo meetings?
