Richard, I don't think it has ever been about 'need'. I can't see the juggernaut not just rolling along. Technological advances are not going to stop so I imagine our purchasing habits are going to keep the pace. A product's life span has already shrunk to a couple of years, even for expensive high end equipment. Leasing is looking better all the time :)

good luck with the prints, geoff.

the same happens to me when I visit photokina in cologne. I had to fight with myself not to spend so much money... it ended with an epson r2400, hardware fo calibration, etc. :-)
in the meantime the prints did the ROI for the epson printer. good :)

cheers

Hi Geoff - like you I can be technology obsessed. It won't stop me, but don't you think that the digital evolution has peaked - or at least levelled out? Sure there will be more and more fancy stuff, but now we are at consumer level full frame sensors I don't see what else we need. An affordable medium format digital back for my Hasselblad would be nice, but I'm not sure that I need any more pixels unless I want to print it the side of a house and look at it from 6 feet.

Digital printing maybe hasn't peaked, but I think it's getting close as well,

Interestingly Canon didn't even put in an appearance at the UK major imaging expo this year (Focus on Imaging)
